portrait of Alex Solca

This whole photo journey got started a while ago when one day I casually asked my mom to borrow her camera....those where the days when, as a young teenager, I didn't have a clear idea about what I could do with my life and I was pretty much gradually turning into a lazy looser....but suddenly after taking a few shots I felt this passion for it and that was it...major change in attitude and lifestyle! I always loved rock music and the idea of combining photography with music sounded like the best way to have a lot of fun guaranteed... since I was going to a lot of shows for fun anyway, I started bringing my camera in and slowly built my portfolio mostly with photographs of the "New wave of british heavy metal " or german metal bands. Saxon,Venom, Accept, Motorhead... those photos got me my first published work in the coolest black and white fanzine at the time in Italy: Rockerilla. But the first serious gig came a few years later when a trip to Rome got a gig to be a regular contributor for a pop magazine in Italy: Ciao 2001. And then, one brick at a time, things started to evolve: I sold my first pictures for an album cover in 1986, for a CD by Celtic Frost, "Into the Pandemonium". More magazine work followed until in 1987 I moved to Los Angeles to report about the local scene for italian, french and german magazines.. Being at the right place at the right time helped a lot and over the years I've been able to work and publish photos in a lot of publications like Rockhard, Kerrang!, Metalhammer, Aardschok ,Metal Maniacs, Metal Edge, Hit Parader, Burrn!, Modern Drummer, Rhythm, Sticks, Player, Close-up, Music Express....I've been lucky enough to meet and get support from a lot of bands and so far I've managed to get my photos on more than 100 CD covers, by bands like Journey, Dio, Alice Cooper, Fates Warning, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Vasco Rossi, Glenn Hughes, Jeff Blades, Jeff Scott Soto, Danzig, Lee Rocker, Reo Speedwagon, Machine Head, Skinlab, Gotthard, Dave Weckl, Kyuss... I spend my time doing photo shoots for record companies , magazines, local bands, and companies like Tama, Ibanez, LP, Meinl, ESP, DW, Mapex, Zildjian,Remo etc.On top of that I get to see and shoot tons of shows.... And here I am right now, twenty years later, still enjoying my hobby like there is no tomorrow and getting excited everytime the phone rings.
